"Painting with light"
The Seeing With Photography Collective in New York includes blind artists who developed a new technique, called "painting with light," to take photographs. Their unusual work is on exhibit at the South Shore Art Center in Cohasset.
Because vision problems are more common with age, I thought the exhibit might offer insights on how to cope with those and other losses that can occur over time. It did -- in fact, it was a revelation.
My tour guide was Patricia Laliberte of Hingham. She taught art for 31 years in the Scituate elementary schools.
"I learned that people with no vision, or just a tiny part of vision, can create something they thought they'd never be able to do again," Laliberte said. "This has given them a new type of expression."
